For winning work

Fee proposals that stop eating your evenings

The proposal is the most commercially important document your practice writes, and it is usually the one rebuilt at 10pm from an old file for a different client.

Why proposals leak money

  • Every proposal starts from whichever old document was nearest.
  • The fee is a gut number nobody can defend in a meeting.
  • Scope creeps because the exclusions were copied from another job.
  • Nobody chases, so a decent enquiry dies of silence.

What it does for you

Win the work

A proposal drafted from your own previous documents, in your practice's language, with the scope and exclusions attached to the job.

Run the work

The accepted proposal becomes the job, so the scope you sold is the scope on the board.

Make money from the work

Compare the fee you quoted against the hours actually spent, and quote better next time.

How it works

  1. 1Log the enquiry with the site and the scope.
  2. 2Check the site constraints before you price the risk.
  3. 3Draft the proposal from your own library of past work.
  4. 4Send it, then follow up on a schedule rather than a hunch.
  5. 5Turn the win into a live job in one step.

A fee range you can defend

Grout suggests a range benchmarked against published fee guidance and cost data, with a confidence rating and the reasoning shown. You override it whenever you disagree, and it learns nothing about your client that you did not put in.

Price the risk before you quote it

Run the postcode first. Knowing a site is in a conservation area or flood zone 3 before you send a number is the difference between a fee and a favour.

Where it is not the right tool

If you want a proposal generator that invents a number with no reference to your own history, this is not it. Every draft comes out of your work.

Common questions

Does it write the proposal for us?
